Spring 2023

It is still very much winter here in Norway and there will be snow on the ground for another two months in this little pocket of the woods. But the seeds are nestled in their humid environments and perched in sunny windowsills, while the winter birds gather sticks and moss for their nests outside.

Noticing these simple and beautiful moments is my way of reconnecting with self and being creative in this season.

Things that are giving me inspiration in the studio this week:

The textures and colors of a landscape where clay and stone are the building materials available, Photo from a trip to Frigiliana, Spain

Rusty oranges & terra cotta colors. Photo from a trip to Alcazaba, Málaga Spain

The Peace of Wild Things

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
